Can a Natural survive in the 22nd Century genetically engineered space navy?

Henry Gallant goes on a dangerous mission to an invading aliens' homeworld in the Gliese-581 star system. There he uses a neural interface to penetrate their communication network and steal a high ranking alien's identity. Through this artifice, he learns about their history and society and discovers a way to hinder and possibly defeat them.

A side-effect of linking into the alien network--which was created for autistic savants--is that Gallant's mind is stimulated and enhanced to the point where he begins to experience superintelligence abilities.

Upon returning from his mission, there is concern that Gallant might pose a more serious threat than the aliens. While he struggles to fend off those who doubt his loyalty, he fights to win back Alaina.

Commander Henry Gallant The Henry Gallant Saga Book 4 eBook H Peter Alesso

I am a big fan of the "Henry Gallant" series and I enjoyed this fourth installment. Lots of action and excellent character development. I do have a few complaints with this one, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

First, let me make it clear that I enjoyed the book. There is some really interesting speculation by the author about the pros and cons of genetic engineering, and I really liked the way that the author related this issue to the nature of the Titan enemy. (No spoilers here).

Character development is excellent. Gallant's romance with Alaina is well done and somewhat wistful. No doubt Kelsey will be making a reappearance in a future novel to complicate things very nicely in some fashion or other. In my opinion Kelsey got what she had coming to her by marrying that guy, and Gallant seems to have recovered from being jilted by her. Alaina is sweet revenge.

I did not buy the interface by Gallant with the Titan "internet". It just wasn't plausible. I also didn't buy the notion that a methane life form like the Titans could be so similar to human beings. I would expect them to be pretty darned alien and not susceptible to the kind of infiltration that this storyline presents. No spoilers here, but when you read the novel you will likely see what I mean.

I also thought that it was very very odd that the UP would allow Gallant's commander, whose father owned a powerful company, to allow this person to openly promote that company's control of the planetary colony as this story shows happening. Talk about a conflict of interest! Where was the Admiralty? Further, I thought that Gallant's confrontation with this miscreant at the end of the novel was rushed and concluded too hastily. Just my opinion.

Anyway, these are my comments. I enjoyed the novel a lot and will be looking forward to the next one. RJB.

Commander Henry Gallant The Henry Gallant Saga Book 4 eBook H Peter Alesso Reviews

Good read for a military S/F story. Too much of a love story for my taste.
Another fun filled thriller. Enjoyed the characters and the truism that nature will find a work around to mans or alien interference .
I enjoy this series and book 4, Commander, is as good a read as the rest. One caveat, the end physical fight that resolves the primary conflict smacks of deus ex machina, and the interfacing with Titan computers is really not plausible. Still, a fun read.
This fourth book in the series is a very exciting one!! The plot and the adventurous story that the main character embarks on will keep you reading the whole way through. Packed with romance, action, and great story line, this sci-Fi book will take you on a journey that you will enjoy.
I was distracted by the spelling errors "najor" instead of Major "hilly clubs" instead of Billy clubs. Missing words and poor grammer. Most of this was found in a single chapter and I wonder it they failed to edit that chapter ?
A typical "space opera." Hard charging space trooper finds girl. loses girl, finds another girl, almost loses her while battling the bad guys -- enemies from afar and at home -- comes back to girl....... Ahhhh. Mushy but average read
I usually do not read the genre of science fiction, so I was not sure if I would like the book or not. Well I was wrong for pre-judging both the genre and the book. I must say the book was great. It kept my attention all the way through to the end. The plot was very intriguing, and the authors creative use of visual descriptions made the backdrop of the story very realistic. The characters were very likable and interacted well together. The author really does a good job at capturing the readers attention and keeping the reader engaged. I know the author has other books in the same series. Think I will give them a read as well.

H. Peter Alesso is a great author, I'm so glad I stumbled onto his work. I can't wait to read his other books. I think I may be a Sci-fi fan now.
